Złotoryja Map Poster & Print
Złotoryja lies on the Kaczawa River in Lower Silesia, where the foothills of the Sudetes meet the lowlands to the north. The oldest part of town sits on raised ground above the river, with a market square at its centre and streets leading outward from it, while later districts spread along the valley and over the gentler slopes around it.
The town's name means golden, a reference to the gold found in local rivers and hills in the Middle Ages. Złotoryja received town rights in 1211, which makes it one of the oldest chartered towns in Poland. Gold panning remains part of its identity, and the town regularly hosts gold panning championships.
