Edaicode is in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, near the border with Kerala at the southern tip of the Indian peninsula. From above, it does not look like a compact town. Houses and lanes spread across green countryside, and roads link clusters of homes rather than dividing a single dense core.
This part of India is lush and closely settled. Coconut palms, plantations and small fields fill the spaces between buildings, and the Western Ghats rise to the north and east. Lanes curve with the land and property lines, so the street network grows irregularly outward instead of following a plan.
