Amarante Map Poster & Print
Amarante is a municipality in the state of Piauí in northeastern Brazil, on the right bank of the Parnaíba river, which forms the border with Maranhão. From above, the town is laid out along the riverfront, with streets running back from the water onto slightly higher ground, and the broad, sandy course of the Parnaíba dominating the edge of the map.
The river has always shaped life here, from transport and fishing to the everyday view across to the far bank, where the town of São Francisco do Maranhão lies in the neighbouring state. Amarante is also remembered as the birthplace of the poet Da Costa e Silva, who wrote the lyrics of the Piauí state anthem.
An Amarante map poster frames the relationship between town and river: the wide band of the Parnaíba with its sandbanks, the modest street grid alongside it, and the roads heading inland across the Piauí countryside. This is the Brazilian Amarante, not the Portuguese town of the same name, and the coordinates line makes that clear.

State border
The river is also the boundary between Piauí and Maranhão, so the map shows two states facing each other across the water.
Riverside street grid
Streets run back from the waterfront in a fairly regular pattern, with newer blocks spreading inland along the main roads out of town.

Pourquoi Amarante
Une carte qui a du sens
For people from Amarante, the river sits at the heart of the town's identity, and the view across to Maranhão is part of everyday life. A map preserves that setting and makes a meaningful gift for someone who has moved away.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with a family name or a date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as $9 HD files in six sizes or as a printed matte poster with an optional frame.
