Hill setting
Ridges and slopes surround the town and determine where streets can go. The terrain gives the map a more irregular outline than towns on the plains.

Baki Map Poster & Print
Baki lies in the Awdal region in the far northwest of the Somali territories, in an area administered by Somaliland. The landscape here is more varied than on the southern plains. Hills, ridges and dry riverbeds shape the terrain, and roads have to wind between them. On a map, the town is a compact cluster of streets set into this rugged ground.
The seasonal watercourses, known locally as togga, are a defining feature of the region. For most of the year they are dry, sandy channels. After rain they carry water quickly across the land. Settlement tends to follow them, along with the roads that link the town with Borama and other places in Awdal.
A Baki map poster shows how a town adapts to difficult terrain. The street pattern is tighter than on flat land, and the routes out of town curve to follow valleys and passes. In the design, the town appears as a clear focus inside a landscape of lines and open space. For people from Baki living abroad, it is a precise, meaningful map of home.

Dry riverbeds
Seasonal watercourses cross the landscape as sandy channels. They shape both settlement and the routes that run through the region.
Winding roads
Routes toward other towns in Awdal curve between hills and valleys. On the poster they lead the eye outward from the compact centre.

Pourquoi Baki
Une carte qui a du sens
For families who left Baki for Hargeisa, Djibouti or further afield, a map of the town brings back the streets and hills of home. It makes a thoughtful gift for parents or for children who have only heard the stories.
Add a title in your own spelling, a family name or date in the subtitle, and edit the coordinates. Choose from five styles. Sand and Paper suit the dry hills. Classic black & white keeps the streets crisp.
