Volga shoreline
The wide river and reservoir run along the city's edge, occupying a large part of the frame and giving the poster a bold open expanse of water.

Balakovo Map Poster & Print
Balakovo stands on the left bank of the Volga in Saratov Oblast, where the river widens into the Saratov Reservoir. The city's map is dominated by water: the broad Volga along one side, the dam and locks of the Saratov hydroelectric station, and a series of canals and channels that cut through the urban area and give it an almost island-like structure.
Most of the city was built in the Soviet period, when Balakovo grew rapidly as an industrial centre. Its districts are laid out in large, regular blocks with wide avenues, and the Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant lies a short distance away. The older merchant town, where the civil war commander Vasily Chapayev once lived, survives as a smaller historic core.
A Balakovo map poster brings together river, canals and planned streets in one frame. The geometric residential districts contrast with the organic lines of the water, and the dam draws a strong straight stroke across the Volga. It is a map of a city built around engineering and a very large river.

City canals
Canals and channels thread through the urban area, dividing districts from one another and adding long, clean water lines to the street pattern.
Hydroelectric dam
The dam and locks of the Saratov hydroelectric station cross the Volga in a strong straight line, one of the most recognisable features on the map.
