The Volga
The river is the widest element on the map, a broad open band that separates Engels from Saratov and gives the poster a calm, horizontal emphasis.

La carte
Engels Map Poster & Print
Engels lies on the eastern bank of the Volga, directly opposite Saratov, and on a map the river dominates the composition. The wide expanse of water separates the two cities, and a long road bridge crosses it, drawing a thin line between them. Engels itself spreads over flat land in a fairly regular grid of streets, with industrial zones and residential districts extending away from the river.
The city was once called Pokrovsk and served as the capital of the Volga German Autonomous Republic, which gave it a distinctive history in the region. Nearby, in 1961, Yuri Gagarin landed after the first human spaceflight, and the site is marked by a memorial. A large air base also lies close to the city.
An Engels map poster captures the relationship between the city, its river and its neighbour across the water. The broad band of the Volga, the long bridge and the ordered streets make a composition that is both simple and expansive, well suited to a clean black-and-white print.

Saratov bridge
A long road bridge crosses the Volga to Saratov, drawn as a single fine line across the water that links the two cities.
Regular street grid
Much of Engels is laid out in straight streets and regular blocks on flat land, creating an orderly pattern that contrasts with the open water beside it.

Pourquoi Engels
Une carte qui a du sens
Engels is a place of crossings: the daily commute over the bridge, family histories linked to the Volga Germans, the story of Gagarin's landing. A map gathers those threads in one clear picture for a home or office.
