River through town
A river winds through the centre of Barabai, and the densest streets and market areas cluster near its banks, making it the natural focus of the composition.

Barabai Map Poster & Print
Barabai is the capital of Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency in South Kalimantan, on the Indonesian part of Borneo. It sits on low ground between the swampy lowlands to the west and the rising Meratus range to the east, and a river runs through the centre, giving the town a clear line to organise around.
The built-up area is compact, with a main commercial district near the river and residential neighbourhoods extending along roads toward neighbouring towns in the upper Hulu Sungai valley. Around it, the map dissolves into a patchwork of rice paddies, gardens and small settlements, with streams descending from the hills to the lowland plain.
A Barabai map poster shows a town defined by its setting: the river curve in the middle, the roads stretching along the valley, and the gradual shift from lowland fields to forested foothills at the eastern edge. It is a modest map, drawn with care, for people who know this corner of Kalimantan personally.

Meratus foothills
East of town the land begins to climb toward the Meratus Mountains, and the street network thins as roads give way to tracks and forest.
Paddy patchwork
Rice fields and gardens surround the settlement in small irregular parcels, so the outer parts of the map have a soft, fragmented pattern.
