Béjaïa Map Poster & Print
Béjaïa sits on Algeria's Kabylian coast, where the mountains meet the Gulf of Béjaïa. From above, the city wraps around the bay. The port and the flatter districts spread along the shore toward the mouth of the Soummam river. The older town climbs the steep slopes to the north, where Mount Gouraya rises above the city and drops into the sea at Cap Carbon.
The city was a major Mediterranean port in the Middle Ages. The mathematician Fibonacci spent part of his youth here and learned Arabic numerals, which he later helped to spread in Europe. The French word for candle, bougie, comes from the city's old name, because it exported wax.
A Béjaïa map poster pairs a busy harbour with a dramatic hillside. In the old town, streets twist steeply, while the newer districts along the coast have longer, looser lines. The Gouraya massif and the cape leave dark, empty areas on the poster that frame the bay. The composition feels both maritime and mountainous, which suits the city.

Gouraya slopes
North of the centre, the mountain rises steeply, and the streets of the old town twist up its lower slopes before giving way to open ground.
Soummam valley
To the south, the city spreads onto flatter land near the river mouth, where the street pattern becomes wider and more regular.

Pourquoi Béjaïa
Une carte qui a du sens
Béjaïa is a city of sea and mountain, and people from Kabylie often feel strongly about it. A poster of its streets brings back the harbour view, the steep lanes and the evening light over the gulf.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir works especially well for the dark mass of the mountain.
