La carte
Chhaya Map Poster & Print
Chhaya lies on the Saurashtra coast of Gujarat and is effectively joined to the city of Porbandar. On the map there is barely a gap between them. Streets and neighbourhoods run continuously from one to the other, set on flat, low ground not far from the Arabian Sea. Creeks, salt flats and open land appear in the spaces around the built-up area.
The town is part of Porbandar's urban area, which is known worldwide as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. Chhaya itself has its own local identity, with residential neighbourhoods, temples and markets, and many residents work in Porbandar's port, fishing and industrial economy.
A Chhaya map poster shows how one town merges into the next on a flat coastal plain. The dense residential blocks, the connecting roads and the nearby coastline give the image a clear structure. For families from Chhaya, it is a way to put their own streets, rather than only the better-known neighbour, on the wall.

Coastal plain
Flat, low-lying land slopes towards the Arabian Sea and leaves the street pattern largely unbroken by hills.
Creeks and flats
Water channels and open, marshy ground sit around the edges of town. They soften the outline of the dense centre.
