Deçan gorge
West of town the river comes out of a narrow valley cut into the mountains. Here the road shrinks to a single thread that follows the water upstream.

Deçan Map Poster & Print
Deçan lies in western Kosovo, where the flat Dukagjin plain meets the steep wall of the Accursed Mountains near the borders with Albania and Montenegro. The Lumbardhi i Deçanit river leaves the mountains through a narrow gorge just west of town. It then flows out across the plain and shapes the valley around it.
The town is best known for the Visoki Dečani Monastery, a fourteenth-century Serbian Orthodox monastery at the mouth of the gorge. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for the Medieval Monuments in Kosovo. The walled complex and the forest around it sit a short distance from the town's compact streets.
A Deçan map poster works best with the terrain in mind. Houses and streets spread across the level ground in an open, spacious pattern, and the river cuts a clear line through them. To the west the roads thin out and climb into the valley toward the mountains. The contrast between plain and gorge gives the print a strong sense of place.

Monastery grounds
The Visoki Dečani Monastery stands near the mouth of the gorge. Its enclosed grounds form a distinct shape on the boundary between the town and the forest.
Settlement on the plain
Houses and plots spread across the flat Dukagjin plain in a loose pattern. Long roads run between them to the fields and neighbouring villages.

Pourquoi Deçan
Une carte qui a du sens
Many people carry Deçan with them from abroad, whether they grew up there or come back for summers. A map shows the town, the river and the edge of the mountains together in one quiet image that suits a hallway or a study.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be set to a family name, a village or a date. Each of the five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, changes the mood. Noir makes the mountain valley especially striking against a dark background.
