Geldrop lies on the south-eastern edge of Eindhoven in North Brabant, close enough that the two urban areas almost merge. From above, the small river Kleine Dommel winds through the town between green strips and wooded banks. The streets spread out from it in a mix of older roads lined with buildings and postwar neighbourhoods laid out in quieter curves.
The historic centre is modest and built along a few main streets rather than around a single square, and much of the town's character comes from its green spaces. The park around Geldrop Castle forms a large open area, and heath and woods lie to the south. Geldrop shares a municipality with Mierlo to the east. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Geldrop was an important textile town, and several former factory buildings still recall that period. A watermill on the Dommel is a reminder of the older, water-powered industry that came before. Geldrop Castle, surrounded by a moat and its park, is now used for exhibitions and events.
