From above, the town is built around one unusually wide main street that runs in a long, straight line, with the church and the old core set along it. Side streets branch off at intervals. Beyond them the built area thins quickly into fields, glasshouses and scattered farmsteads.
The landmark that anchors the map is the Church of Saint Catherine, whose brick tower rises far above the flat countryside and can be seen from a long way off.
