Lakes around the centre
The town centre is framed by lake water on several sides. The long, curving shorelines give the map its main outlines and a strong sense of place.

Iisalmi Map Poster & Print
Iisalmi is a town in North Savo, in the lake district of eastern Finland. It is home to the Olvi brewery, one of the country's best-known independent breweries. The town is also linked to the Battle of Koljonvirta in 1808 during the Finnish War, fought at the strait just outside the centre.
On the map, water dominates. The town centre sits on land between lakes, including Porovesi, and it connects to the surrounding areas by bridges over straits and narrows. The shorelines are long and irregular, with peninsulas, bays and islands, and residential neighbourhoods extend along them into the forest.
An Iisalmi map poster shows the typical Finnish lakeland pattern in a compact form. The streets are orderly in the centre and looser at the edges, and they always end at water. It is a map in which the lakes set the layout as much as the roads do.

Koljonvirta strait
The narrow waterway near the centre is crossed by a bridge and associated with the 1808 battle. It is a short but significant gap in the land.
Shoreline neighbourhoods
Residential areas spread along peninsulas and bays and meet forest at their edges. This creates a loose, stretched pattern typical of Finnish lake towns.

Pourquoi Iisalmi
Une carte qui a du sens
Iisalmi is a place of summers by the lake and winters on the ice, and a map of it naturally recalls both. It makes a good gift for anyone from North Savo, or a way to remember a summer cottage nearby.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps in Finnish, and set the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint shows the water especially clearly. HD files cost $9, and matte printed posters are available too.
