Burg Kerpen
The castle sits in the heart of Illingen, and the older lanes around it curve in a tighter, more irregular pattern than the rest of the municipality.

La carte
Illingen Map Poster & Print
Illingen lies in the Neunkirchen district of Saarland. It is less a single town than a group of villages spread over rolling, partly wooded hills. On a map, several built-up areas with their own small centres are connected by winding country roads, with woodland and meadows in between. The small river Ill, a tributary of the Saar, gives the municipality its name and its main valley.
The best-known landmark is Burg Kerpen, a castle in the centre of Illingen that is used today for cultural events. Around it, the older streets follow the terrain, bending with the slopes instead of running in straight lines. Newer residential areas on the hillsides have the curved cul-de-sacs typical of postwar German housing.
An Illingen map poster shows this spread-out settlement pattern clearly. Clusters of streets sit apart from each other like islands, joined by thin roads that follow valleys and ridges. Woodland stays white, so the villages stand out as darker patches, and the result has a lighter, airier feel than a dense city plan.

Villages among woods

Pourquoi Illingen
Une carte qui a du sens
Illingen suits someone who likes a map with breathing space: separate villages, curving hill roads, a castle in the middle. It is a quiet, very Saarland image of home.
