Lake Pamvotis
The lake fills much of the map and shapes the whole city. Its smooth shoreline contrasts with the dense streets that crowd right up to its western bank.

Ioánnina Map Poster & Print
Ioánnina is the capital of Epirus in northwestern Greece. It lies on the western shore of Lake Pamvotis, with the steep ridge of Mount Mitsikeli rising across the water. On a map the lake takes up a large part of the frame, and the city's streets press up against its shoreline in a dense crescent.
The old town sits inside the walls of the Kastro, a fortified promontory that reaches into the lake. It is closely linked with Ali Pasha, the Ottoman-era ruler whose seat was here in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. A short distance offshore, a small inhabited island sits in the lake and is reached by boat.
An Ioánnina map poster shows the city, the castle and the water together. The lake gives a large, calm shape, the Kastro's walls trace a clear outline on its edge, and the modern streets spread west and south. The University of Ioannina adds a campus pattern at the city's southwestern edge.

The Kastro
The walled old town occupies a promontory jutting into the lake. Its fortifications draw a distinct enclosed outline around narrow lanes, mosques and old houses.
The island
A small island sits in the lake just off the city. It appears on the poster as a separate cluster of streets surrounded by water.
