Panj River
The broad river runs through the valley and forms the international border, its braided channels creating the dominant shape of the poster.

La carte
Ishqoshim Map Poster & Print
Ishqoshim, often written Ishkashim, lies in the Gorno-Badakhshan region of Tajikistan, on the banks of the Panj River where it forms the border with Afghanistan. Across the river sits the Afghan town of the same name, and a bridge links the two sides. On a map, the town is a modest cluster of streets and orchards on a narrow strip of flat land.
The setting is dramatic. High mountains rise on both banks, the Hindu Kush to the south and the Pamir ranges to the north, and the valley here marks the western gateway to the Wakhan Corridor. The road along the Tajik bank, part of the Pamir Highway region's network, follows the river closely through the valley.
An Ishqoshim map poster is defined by water and constraint. The Panj draws a broad, braided line through the frame, the town hugs its bank, and the steep ground on either side leaves little room for streets. The result is a narrow, linear composition unlike almost any other town map.

Border bridge
A bridge crosses the Panj near the town, linking Tajik and Afghan Ishkashim, a small but significant line on the map.
Wakhan gateway
East of town the valley narrows into the Wakhan, where the riverside road continues between high ranges with almost nothing else drawn around it.

Pourquoi Ishqoshim
Une carte qui a du sens
Ishqoshim is a place travellers remember long after crossing the Pamirs, and a place locals know as the edge of two worlds. The map captures that river boundary in a clean, striking form.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the date of a journey, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
