Tanganyika shore
The eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika forms the entire western side of the map. Its bays and points give the town a strong natural edge against a large open expanse.

Kigoma Map Poster & Print
Kigoma lies on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika in far western Tanzania, near the borders with Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. From above, the town curves around a sheltered bay on the lake. The port, the railway station and the commercial streets sit close to the water, and residential areas climb the hills behind.
Kigoma is the western terminus of the Central Railway, which runs across the country from Dar es Salaam, and its port connects to other towns around the lake. Nearby Ujiji is where Henry Morton Stanley found David Livingstone in 1871. Gombe Stream National Park, famous for Jane Goodall's chimpanzee research, lies a short way up the shore.
A Kigoma map poster is framed by the lake. Its long, deep shoreline takes up a large part of the composition. The town's streets fan out from the harbour into the slopes, and the railway line leads straight down to the water's edge.

Railway terminus
The Central Railway ends at Kigoma's lakeside station. On the map, the track runs as a long line from the east and ends right at the harbour.
Ujiji nearby
The old trading town of Ujiji lies just south along the shore. It is linked to Kigoma by road and sits where Stanley and Livingstone met.

Pourquoi Kigoma
Une carte qui a du sens
Kigoma means home, the end of a long train journey or the gateway to Gombe for many people. The lake shore and harbour give the print a strong, open composition that feels calm on the wall.
