La carte
Mpanda Map Poster & Print
Mpanda lies in the west of Tanzania and is the administrative centre of Katavi Region, in a landscape of miombo woodland and low hills between Lake Tanganyika and the Rukwa valley. The town is laid out along a few main roads, and the map shows a loose network of streets around a central core, thinning quickly into scattered settlement and fields.
Mpanda is the terminus of a railway branch that connects it with Tanzania's central line, and the tracks end in the town in a clear, straight stroke. To the south lies Katavi National Park, one of the country's more remote wildlife areas, with broad floodplains and seasonal lakes that fill and dry with the rains.
A Mpanda map poster is an understated portrait of a growing regional town, showing its main roads, its railway and the open land still close around it. It suits people from Katavi, those who have worked or taught in the region, and travellers who passed through on their way to the park.

Main roads
The town has grown along a handful of main roads, which form the backbone of the map and lead out toward neighbouring districts and the lake region.
Open surroundings
Beyond the centre, streets become sparse and give way to woodland and farmland, leaving a lot of calm, empty space around the town on the map.
