Levi Map Poster
Levi is a fell in Kittilä, in Finnish Lapland, and the resort grew around its base. On a map the pattern is simple. The rounded fell rises out of a landscape of forest, bog and lakes, with ski runs cut into its slopes, and the village spreads at its foot in a loose grid of streets, hotels and cabins. Roads and snowmobile trails reach outward in every direction.
Levi is one of Finland's largest ski resorts. It hosts the opening women's and men's slalom races of the World Cup season in November, and the winners are traditionally given a reindeer. Winter here brings long polar nights, and the resort is also a base for husky trips, snowmobiling and watching the northern lights. The summer light is just as long, which gives the place a very different second season.
