La carte
Mafraq Map Poster
Mafraq lies in northern Jordan on the flat steppe that stretches east toward the Iraqi border. The name means junction or crossroads, and the map shows why. Major roads converge on the town from Amman, Irbid, the Syrian border and the eastern desert, and the street grid spreads out from where they meet.
The town has long been a transit point. It had a station on the historic Hejaz Railway, and it still lies on the main routes north and east. In recent years Mafraq has become known internationally because the Zaatari refugee camp, which sheltered large numbers of Syrians, is located nearby.
A Mafraq map poster is strong in its simplicity. The highways approach from several directions and meet in the town, the blocks between them are laid out in a mostly regular pattern, and the land around is open and nearly empty. In Sand or Paper style, the desert setting is especially clear.

Railway line
The alignment of the historic Hejaz Railway passes by the town. It adds a long, straight stroke that recalls the route to the Hejaz.
Open steppe
Beyond the last streets, the map is almost empty. That spare frame reflects the flat, dry land that stretches east toward the desert.

Pourquoi Mafraq
Une carte qui a du sens
For Jordanian families from the north, for aid workers who spent years here, and for Syrians who passed through, Mafraq holds strong memories. A poster of its streets gives those memories a quiet, dignified form.
You can set the title and subtitle in Arabic or English, adjust the coordinates, and choose from five styles, with Sand well suited to the desert setting. The $9 download includes files for six print sizes, without a watermark.
