Ridgeline roads
Streets follow the tops of the hills and curve around the slopes, giving the map a branching, organic pattern very different from a planned grid.

Muhanga Map Poster & Print
Muhanga, long known as Gitarama, is a town in Rwanda's Southern Province, west of Kigali. Like much of the country, it is set among steep hills, and from above its roads rarely run straight. They follow ridgelines and contours, dropping into valleys and climbing again, so the map looks more like a set of branching lines than a grid.
The town sits on the main road that links Kigali with the south of the country, and that route forms the clearest spine on the map. Around it, the built-up area spreads along the higher ground, while the valleys between are left largely to farmland and wetland, visible as open spaces that break up the street pattern.
A Muhanga map poster works because of this terrain. Instead of dense blocks, it shows a network shaped by the land itself, with streets gathered on the ridges and gaps where the valleys fall away. The result is an airy, organic drawing that clearly belongs to Rwanda's hill country.

Main road spine
The highway connecting Kigali with the south passes through the town and forms its most continuous line, with side roads branching away onto the ridges.
Open valley floors
Between the settled hills, low valleys stay mostly unbuilt, appearing as open spaces that give the poster its rhythm of dense and empty areas.
