The river winds directly through Palai and gives the poster its most prominent curve, with bridges linking the streets on either side.

La carte
Palai Map Poster & Print
Palai, also known as Pala, lies in the Kottayam district of central Kerala, on the banks of the Meenachil River. It grew as a trading town for the surrounding highlands, and for much of the twentieth century it was closely associated with rubber, which still covers the rolling hills around it in long ranks of plantation trees.
The town is an important centre for the Syro-Malabar Catholic community and the seat of the Diocese of Palai. Schools and colleges, including St. Thomas College, have made it a local educational hub. Its churches and institutions stand out among the dense streets of the centre, where the market grew up close to the river.
A Palai map poster centres on the Meenachil, which curves through the town in a strong dark band. Bridges cross it, the old commercial streets cling to its banks, and newer roads wind out into the hills, following ridges and valleys rather than any grid. The pattern is dense in the middle and gently branching at the edges.

Market centre
Commercial streets gather near the river in a compact cluster, the oldest part of town and the densest area of linework on the map.
Rubber hills
Beyond the centre, winding roads climb into rolling country planted with rubber, their curves following the land and spreading a fine, organic network across the print.
