La carte
Parkent Map Poster & Print
Parkent lies in Tashkent Region, east of the capital, where the irrigated plain begins to rise into the foothills of the western Tian Shan. From above, the town is a network of streets lined with gardens and orchards, typical of Uzbek settlements where houses sit behind walls around courtyards with fruit trees. Mountains fill the eastern horizon.
The area is known for something unexpected: the Solar Furnace near Parkent, built in the 1980s, a large array of mirrors that focuses sunlight onto a single point for materials research. On a map it appears as a compact site in the foothills outside the town, one of very few installations of its kind in the world.
A Parkent map poster shows the town's long residential streets, the irrigation channels and roads that feed it, and the rising ground toward the mountains. In black and white, the contrast between the flatter lower districts and the curving roads of the foothills gives the composition a gentle movement from west to east.

Solar Furnace
Outside the town, the Soviet-era Solar Furnace sits in the foothills, a field of mirrors facing a large concentrator, a distinctive and unusual feature in the landscape.
Rising foothills
East of Parkent, roads begin to wind upward toward the mountains, and the street pattern gives way to curving lines that follow valleys and slopes.
