La carte
Poti Map Poster & Print
Poti sits on the Black Sea coast of western Georgia, where the Rioni River reaches the sea. From above, water surrounds it on nearly every side. The river divides into channels, the harbour's breakwaters and basins jut out into the sea and the broad Paliastomi Lake lies just to the south.
Poti is Georgia's main seaport and has been a gateway to the Colchis lowland for a very long time. Its centre was reorganised in the late nineteenth century around a central square. The large cathedral there, completed in 1907, was modelled on Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The wetlands around the city belong to Kolkheti National Park.
A Poti map poster brings out that watery setting. It shows the geometric port, the planned centre with streets leading from its square, the curving river channels and the smooth line of the coast. The sea and lake leave generous open space around the city.

Port and breakwaters
The harbour's straight piers and enclosed basins stand out against the natural coastline. They are the most rigid, engineered shapes in the drawing.
Paliastomi Lake
A large, shallow coastal lake lies just south of the city in the Kolkheti wetlands. On the map it is a broad, smooth form that balances the port.

Pourquoi Poti
Une carte qui a du sens
Poti is a place of ships, sea wind and river mouths, and a gateway for many who come to Georgia by sea. A map of the city is a quiet memento for sailors, port workers, families from Samegrelo and travellers along the coast.
Set your own title and subtitle, perhaps a ship's name or a date, and keep the coordinates. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint suits a harbour city well.
