Soma Map Poster & Print
Soma is in Manisa province, in western Turkey, in the upper basin of the Bakırçay river. The town sits in a valley surrounded by hills, and its streets spread along the valley floor and up the lower slopes. On the map, the built-up area is compact, with roads following the valley and open land around it.
Soma is known for lignite mining, which has shaped the town for decades. Mine sites and a large thermal power station lie close to the town, and their large plots appear clearly on the map. In 2014, a mine explosion here killed 301 workers, the worst mining disaster in Turkey's history, and it is remembered across the country.
A Soma map poster shows a working town in a valley, with residential streets in the centre and industrial land around them. It is a quiet way for people from Soma, and families with ties to the mines, to keep their hometown in view and remember it with respect.

Mining landscape
Mine sites lie near the town, and their large, irregular areas appear clearly on the poster. They mark the industry that has shaped the town's economy.
Power station
A large thermal power station stands close to the town. Its big, simple outline contrasts with the finer street pattern of the residential areas.
