Sovetsk Map Poster
Sovetsk, in the Kaliningrad region, was known for centuries as Tilsit. It lies on the south bank of the Neman, and the river is the defining feature of its map: a wide channel running along the northern edge of the town, with Lithuania on the opposite shore.
The Queen Louise Bridge crosses the Neman here, and its restored portal is the town's best-known landmark. Tilsit is remembered for the treaties of 1807, when Napoleon and Tsar Alexander I famously met on a raft moored in the river. The name also survives in Tilsit cheese.
