La carte
Velbert Map Poster & Print
Velbert lies in the Mettmann district of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the hills between the Ruhr valley to the north and Wuppertal to the south. The town has three main parts, Velbert itself, Neviges and Langenberg. On the map they appear as separate clusters of streets, linked by roads that follow valleys and ridges through wooded, rolling countryside.
Velbert is known in Germany as a centre of lock and key manufacturing, a trade that shaped its economy for generations and is documented in the German Lock and Fittings Museum. Neviges is a well-known pilgrimage town, famous for its modern concrete pilgrimage church designed by the architect Gottfried Böhm, while Langenberg keeps many historic slate-clad and half-timbered houses.
A Velbert map poster shows how the landscape shapes the town. Streets curve to follow the contours of the hills, valleys cut between the districts, and patches of woodland separate one centre from another. The result is an intricate, organic composition, far from the rigid grids of the flatter cities nearby.

Contour-shaped streets
Roads bend and loop to follow the slopes and ridges, producing a flowing street pattern that reveals the terrain even without shading.
Wooded valleys
Valleys and woodland between the districts leave open spaces on the map, giving the composition rhythm and separating dense areas with quiet gaps.
