Doma lies in Nasarawa State in central Nigeria, on the gently rolling savanna of the Benue lowlands. The town has grown around its older core, and on a map roads come in from several directions and meet near the centre. Houses and compounds spread outward along these routes into farmland.
Doma is the seat of the Andoma of Doma, the traditional ruler of a historic chiefdom associated with the Alago people. That role gives the town a significance beyond its size. The oldest quarters sit close together near the centre, and newer neighbourhoods follow the roads outward.
