La mappa
Arele Map Poster & Print
Arele is a settlement in the Keriya oasis of southern Xinjiang, in Hotan Prefecture, close to the county town of Keriya, known in Chinese as Yutian. The Keriya River flows down from the Kunlun Mountains and fades out northward into the Taklamakan. The farmland it sustains forms a green island in a dry landscape, a shape immediately visible on any map of the area.
Unlike a compact town, Arele spreads across the land as a series of village clusters linked by rural roads. Houses sit beside their fields, and irrigation channels run between the plots. The map records this dispersed pattern as a fine network of lines, with small concentrations where lanes meet rather than one dense centre.
An Arele map poster shows rural Xinjiang at close range: the rhythm of field boundaries, the careful distribution of water and the way roads tie scattered homes together. Printed in a single colour it looks like an architectural drawing, orderly and spare. The unbuilt desert fringe gives it a clear, natural border.

Dispersed villages
Homes are distributed in small clusters along lanes and fields instead of around one centre, producing an even, spread-out texture across the poster.
Field boundaries
Straight ditches and plot edges divide the oasis into a patchwork of rectangles, a pattern that becomes a subtle geometric background in print.

Perché Arele
Una mappa che ha un significato
Rural oases rarely get the attention given to cities, yet they have been home to generations of families and carry a strong sense of belonging. A map of Arele records that landscape faithfully and without decoration, from the lines of the canals to the edge of the sand.
