Temple quarter
The lanes around the Someshwar Nath temple are the most tightly drawn part of town, a dense cluster where pilgrim routes converge before spreading back out into the plain.

La mappa
Areraj Map Poster & Print
Areraj is a town in the East Champaran district of northern Bihar, in the wide alluvial plain drained by the Gandak river system. On a map the settlement is a modest knot of lanes and small roads, gathered tightly at its centre and loosening quickly into the patchwork of fields and village tracks that covers the surrounding plain.
The town is best known for the Someshwar Nath temple, a Shiva shrine that draws large numbers of pilgrims, particularly during the month of Shravan. Nearby stands an Ashokan pillar, often called the Lauriya Areraj pillar, one of the inscribed columns erected in the third century BCE, which gives this quiet stretch of countryside a long historical reach.
An Areraj map poster captures a place drawn in fine, irregular strokes rather than bold avenues. Roads arrive from neighbouring market towns and meet near the old centre, while ponds and watercourses break up the street pattern, leaving a composition that feels organic and close to the land around it.

Ashokan pillar site
The ancient pillar stands in open country outside the built-up area, a reminder that the plain around Areraj has been settled and travelled for more than two thousand years.
Plain and water
Streams, ponds and field boundaries shape the edges of town, so the map fades gradually from streets into the flat agricultural landscape typical of the Gandak basin.
