The quarries around town are part of Artik's identity. They mark the landscape as open, cleared areas at the edge of the built-up zone.

La mappa
Artik Map Poster & Print
Artik is a town in Armenia's Shirak province, on the high plateau at the western foot of Mount Aragats. From above, it looks orderly: a fairly regular street plan on open ground, with fields and quarries around it and the mountain's slopes rising to the east.
The town is known above all for its tuff, a soft volcanic stone, often pinkish, that has been quarried here for generations and used in buildings across Armenia. Nearby stands Lmbatavank, a small early medieval church, one of several old monuments in the area around the town.
An Artik map poster shows a compact town grid, quarry areas at the edges and roads crossing the plateau toward Gyumri and the surrounding villages. The open highland around it gives the map a calm, spacious frame, fitting for a town made of stone from its own ground.

Plateau grid
The main part of town follows a fairly regular street layout on level highland ground, forming a neat, balanced shape on the map.
Toward Aragats
To the east, the land rises toward Mount Aragats. The roads and open slopes lead the eye away from town toward the mountain.

Perché Artik
Una mappa che ha un significato
Artik is a place defined by its stone. For people from here, a map of the town is a way to hold on to the plateau, the quarries and the pink walls of home, wherever life has taken them.
Add a family name, date or coordinates to the title and subtitle, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand echoes the colour of the tuff. Get the $9 HD files or a framed print.
