Chamblee sits in DeKalb County, north-east of central Atlanta, where the inner suburbs give way to the corridors leading toward Gwinnett. The town grew as a railroad stop, and from above the rail line and Peachtree Road still form its main spine, with neighbourhoods of curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs spread out on either side.
The largest open shape on the map is DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, a general aviation field whose runways lie on land that was once part of Camp Gordon, an army training camp during the First World War. Its long crossed strips contrast sharply with the dense mesh of streets around them and make the map immediately recognisable.
Chamblee is also known for Buford Highway, the corridor of international restaurants and markets along its southern side, and for the antiques shops near its old downtown.
