East Point sits just south-west of Atlanta, and its shape on a map comes from the railroad. The town grew at the eastern end of the Atlanta and West Point Railroad, which gave it its name. Downtown streets are aligned with the tracks, and a fairly regular grid spreads out from that line into leafy residential neighbourhoods.
To the south, the vast runways of Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport take up a large block of land, and on a map they form long, straight bars that dwarf the surrounding streets. Interstates and MARTA rail link East Point to central Atlanta, and the rail line runs straight through the city.
