Valley town form
The built-up area stretches along the valley floor rather than spreading in a grid, giving the town an elongated shape that clearly follows the landscape.

La mappa
Heishui Map Poster & Print
Heishui is a town in the uplands of southeast Chongqing, near where the municipality borders Hunan, Hubei and Guizhou. This is rugged karst country in the Wuling Mountains, and the map shows it immediately. Roads twist along the valleys, the town stretches out wherever there is flat land, and small villages sit on ridges and slopes.
Southeast Chongqing is home to large Tujia and Miao communities, and the region's culture, architecture and festivals differ noticeably from those of Chongqing city. Limestone shapes the landscape into steep hills, streams that can vanish underground and terraced fields cut into the slopes. All of this gives local maps an unusually intricate texture.
A Heishui map poster shows a town shaped by its terrain: streets following the valley floor, lanes climbing toward hillside homes, and the surrounding mountains traced by the curves of roads and paths. It is a quiet, detailed print, especially good in the Sand or Paper styles, for anyone with family ties to the Wuling uplands.

Winding mountain roads
Roads leaving town loop and switch back through the hills. They produce some of the most expressive curving lines a small-town map can offer.
Karst hill country
Limestone hills, small terraces and scattered hamlets surround the town, adding a fine pattern of tracks and settlements to the edges of the print.

Perché Heishui
