La mappa

Nakama Map Poster & Print

Nakama lies in Fukuoka Prefecture, on the Onga River, just southwest of Kitakyushu. It belongs to the historic Chikuhō area, which was once Japan’s largest coal-mining region. The Onga River and the nearby Horikawa Canal, dug during the Edo period, carried coal and goods toward the coast before railways took over much of that work.

On a map, Nakama is organised along the river. The Onga runs north through the city in a wide channel, rail lines follow the valley, and residential streets spread across the flatter ground on both sides. Hills rise toward the edges of the city, and bridges connect the two banks at regular intervals.

A Nakama map poster shows how a river and its history shaped a town. The strong line of the Onga divides the composition, the canal adds a thinner parallel stroke, and the streets fill in around them. In black and white, the result is orderly and clear, a portrait of a place built on transport and industry.

Onga River

The broad river runs north through Nakama toward the sea, forming the central axis of the map with streets and bridges arranged on both sides.

02

Horikawa Canal

This Edo-period canal once carried coal boats between the Onga and the coast, and its narrow line remains visible within the city’s street pattern.

03

Valley rail lines

Railways follow the river valley through the city, drawing smooth, continuous lines that reflect Nakama’s long role in moving coal and goods.

Perché Nakama

Una mappa che ha un significato
