La mappa
Oregon City Map Poster & Print
Oregon City sits on the east bank of the Willamette River where it drops over Willamette Falls, just south of Portland and where the Clackamas River joins the Willamette. Its form is unusual: a narrow downtown squeezed between the river and a basalt bluff, and a larger residential grid spread across the high ground above.
The city was the end point of the Oregon Trail and was incorporated in 1844, the first American city west of the Rocky Mountains to do so. To connect the lower and upper town, it built a municipal elevator, still running today, alongside a series of stairways up the cliff. On a map, the switchbacks and short connectors between the two levels stand out clearly.
An Oregon City map poster shows the river, the falls, the two-level layout and the grid stretching away from the bluff. The meeting of the Clackamas and the Willamette adds curves at the northern edge. It is a strong choice for anyone connected to the city, or for history lovers interested in the end of the trail.
