La mappa
Roanoke Rapids Map Poster & Print
Roanoke Rapids grew up beside the falls of the Roanoke River in northeastern North Carolina, where the water drops enough to power industry. The river forms the town's northern edge on the map, and the dams upstream hold back Roanoke Rapids Lake and, farther on, Lake Gaston. Streets extend south from the river in a mostly regular pattern.
The town's early economy centered on textile mills. A strike and union campaign at one of its mills in the 1970s inspired the film Norma Rae. Earlier still, the Roanoke Canal was built to carry boats around the rapids, and its route is now preserved as a trail and museum.
Interstate 95 passes along the western side, linking the town to the wider East Coast. A Roanoke Rapids map poster brings those layers together: river, canal, mill streets and highway, each a different period of the town's working life drawn in a single view.

Roanoke Canal
The route of the historic canal, built to bypass the falls, runs close to the river and is now a walking trail, a thin line that follows the water.
Mill-town grid
Streets laid out to house mill workers form a regular pattern south of the river, dense near the old industrial sites and looser farther out.

Perché Roanoke Rapids
Una mappa che ha un significato
Roanoke Rapids means a great deal to families who worked in its mills and to people who still live near the river. A map honors that working history without romanticising it, showing simply where things were and how they fit together.
