Rome in Georgia grew where the Etowah and Oostanaula rivers join to form the Coosa, and that confluence sits right at the heart of the map. Downtown occupies the narrow tongue of land between the rivers, with Broad Street running through it, and neighbourhoods spread across the surrounding hills on every bank.
The city was named after Rome in Italy because it was built on hills, often counted as seven. A copy of the Capitoline Wolf, gifted by Italy, stands in front of City Hall. To the north lies Berry College, whose enormous campus of woods, fields and lakes is among the largest in the world.
