Yao River
The river winds through the city centre, with older districts pressed close to both banks, giving the map its strongest curving line.

La mappa
Yuyao Map Poster & Print
Yuyao lies in northeastern Zhejiang, within the city of Ningbo, on the flat and heavily watered plain south of Hangzhou Bay. From above, the Yao River winds through the centre, and the older districts sit close along its banks. Around them, newer districts spread outward in broad blocks, and the surrounding land is crossed by canals, rivers and farm plots.
The area has a long past. The Hemudu archaeological site nearby, a Neolithic settlement around seven thousand years old, is one of the earliest known rice-growing communities in China. Yuyao is also the birthplace of Wang Yangming, the Ming dynasty philosopher whose ideas remain influential across East Asia.
A Yuyao map poster shows a city where water shapes the plan. The river curves through the centre, the canals divide the land into irregular pieces, and the modern districts add regular, grid-like blocks at the edges. In black and white, the mix of old waterside streets and new planning reads clearly and has a quiet balance.

Canal plain
Rivers and canals cross the surrounding plain, breaking the land into irregular pieces and giving the edges of the map a fine texture.
New districts
Newer areas spread out from the old centre in broad, regular blocks, contrasting with the more organic streets along the river.
