Glinde lies just beyond Hamburg's eastern city limit, in the Stormarn district of Schleswig-Holstein. On the map it reads as a compact town with a clear shape. A main street and a small centre are surrounded by residential blocks, and the land beyond turns quickly into open fields and patches of woodland.
Its layout reflects decades of growth as a commuter town. Rows of houses and low apartment blocks follow orderly streets, while some older roads keep the gentle curves of the country lanes they once were. Green strips and small parks run between the neighbourhoods, which keeps the map open.
