Keur Médoune lies in the Diourbel Region of central Senegal. This is flat, sandy country in the groundnut basin, where towns and villages grow outward across open land instead of climbing hills or following rivers. From above, the pattern is loose and horizontal. Compounds and plots are separated by sandy lanes, and paths run out into cultivated fields.
