Eisenach Map Poster & Print

Eisenach lies at the northwestern edge of the Thuringian Forest, in the valley of the Hörsel River. From above, the old town fills the flatter ground around the market square, while the land rises steeply to the south into forested hills. On one of those ridges stands the Wartburg, one of the best-known castles in Germany.

The Wartburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it was there that Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German in 1521 and 1522. Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach in 1685. The town also has a long car-making history, including the Wartburg automobile.

An Eisenach map poster shows how closely the town is tied to its terrain: dense streets in the valley, winding roads climbing into the woods, and the castle ridge standing apart. It is a strong composition for anyone who knows Thuringia.

The Wartburg

The castle sits on a wooded ridge south of the town, reached by winding roads, a small but meaningful point above the forest.

02

Old town

The historic centre around the market square forms a compact web of streets on the valley floor, the densest part of the map.

03

Thuringian Forest

Forested hills rise to the south, where the street network gives way to curving roads and paths through wide green space.

Cur Eisenach

Tabula quae aliquid significat

Eisenach carries the names of Luther and Bach, and the Wartburg above the town is known far beyond Germany. A map poster is a quiet way to keep that history and landscape on a wall.

Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, then choose a style from Classic black & white to Sand. Download the files for $9 or order a matte printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
