Jinshan Map Poster & Print

This Jinshan lies in the south-east of Gansu province, in the hilly loess country of north-west China. The landscape shapes its map almost completely. Settlement and roads follow the valley floors, while the slopes around them are cut into terraces and folded ridges. The result is a winding, linear pattern and not a compact grid.

The town is the densest part of the valley, a cluster of streets and buildings where the valley widens enough to allow it. Roads follow streams through the hills, connecting Jinshan with villages farther along the valley and with larger centres in the region. Small field plots and paths cover the slopes in a fine, irregular texture.

A Jinshan map poster shows a place shaped by the land around it. The valley sets the direction, the hills set the limits, and the settlement fits into the space in between. It is an understated, textured image of rural Gansu. For people connected to the town, it carries a clear sense of their home landscape.

01

Valley corridor

The town follows a valley floor. Roads and buildings run in a band between the hills, rather than spreading out evenly.

02

Loess slopes

Terraced hillsides and ridges surround the settlement. They create a fine, irregular pattern of paths and field edges.

03

Winding roads

Roads follow streams through the hills. They link the town with villages in the valleys nearby and with the wider region.
