Metropolitan edge
In the south, Colombo's streets merge with the northern neighbourhoods of Curitiba. There is almost no visible break, and the map is at its densest here.

The map
Colombo Map Poster & Print
Colombo is a municipality in the metropolitan area of Curitiba, in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná. From above, its southern part is densely built. Residential neighbourhoods run up to the edge of Curitiba, while to the north the streets thin out into a rolling rural landscape of small farms, woods and winding country roads.
The town was founded in the late nineteenth century by Italian immigrants, and that heritage is still visible in its food, its wine and its rural tourism route, the Circuito Italiano. The area also has limestone terrain, and the Bacaetava cave is one of its natural attractions.
A Colombo map poster shows the transition from metropolitan density to countryside in a single frame. The southern edge is a mesh of streets merging with Curitiba, while the north is a loose, open network of roads following the hills and valleys.

Rural road network
To the north, the roads wind through hills and small valleys between farms and woodland. They form a loose, organic pattern very different from the suburban grid.
Historic centre
The original town centre, founded by Italian settlers, sits away from the densest suburbs. It is a smaller, more compact cluster of streets set among the hills.
