The map
Dhulikhel Map Poster & Print
Dhulikhel sits on a ridge east of the Kathmandu Valley, and from above the town reads as a compact knot of old lanes perched on high ground. Streets bend with the hillside instead of forming a grid. Terraced fields and scattered settlements fall away on every side, and the ridge's contour shows clearly in how the built area stretches out and then stops at the steeper slopes.
The Araniko Highway, the road that links Kathmandu toward the Tibetan border, passes along the edge of town and adds one long, confident line to an otherwise intricate map. Newer houses and institutions spread out from the old core along this road. Kathmandu University's main campus is nearby, and its grounds show up as a more open, planned pattern set against the dense lanes of the historic centre.
