Sea of greenhouses
Greenhouse plots cover the plain in a dense mosaic of rectangles. It is one of the largest farming patterns in Europe seen from above, and the most distinctive element of the poster.

The map
El Ejido Map Poster & Print
El Ejido lies on the Campo de Dalías, a coastal plain in the province of Almería between the Sierra de Gádor and the Mediterranean. The town grew quickly in the second half of the twentieth century on intensive farming under plastic. Today it is surrounded by one of the largest concentrations of greenhouses in the world, an expanse often called the sea of plastic.
On a map this landscape makes an extraordinary pattern. Rectangular plots fill the plain edge to edge, divided by narrow access roads, so the town seems to dissolve into a fine geometric texture. To the south, the coast includes the marina and resort of Almerimar. To the north, the mountains rise sharply and close off the plain.
An El Ejido map poster has an unusual subject: how agriculture has reshaped an entire landscape. The dense grid of greenhouse plots, the town at its centre and the curve of the coastline make a striking graphic composition. It appeals to people who live and work here, and to anyone interested in how human activity shapes land.

Almerimar marina
On the coast south of the town, the marina and the development around it form a clear, curved shape against the Mediterranean shoreline.
Mountain edge
The Sierra de Gádor rises to the north, and its slopes bring the grid of plots to an abrupt end, giving the map a strong natural boundary.
