The map
Flandes Map Poster & Print
Flandes sits on the western bank of the Magdalena River in Tolima, directly opposite the city of Girardot in Cundinamarca. On a map the wide brown river defines everything: it runs between the two towns, and bridges stretch across it to join them.
The town's streets form a fairly regular grid on the flat land beside the river, spreading back from the bank towards farmland and low hills. The climate is hot, and the area is a popular weekend destination for visitors from Bogotá, who come down from the highlands for the warmth.
A Flandes map poster shows a town that belongs to two departments at once in everyday life, sharing a river, bridges and a daily flow of people with Girardot. The river's curve and the lines of the bridges give the design a clear focal point.
