The river winds across the plain and through the city toward the sea, crossed by several bridges and giving the centre a clear axis.

The map
Fuqing Map Poster & Print
Fuqing is a county-level city under Fuzhou in Fujian province, on the coast of the Taiwan Strait. Its urban core sits on a river plain crossed by the Longjiang River, with hills rising behind it and the land breaking up to the east and south into bays, inlets, reclaimed flats and offshore islands.
The area is known as a hometown of many overseas Chinese, with emigrant families spread across Southeast Asia, Japan and beyond. In the hills nearby stands Wanfu Temple on Mount Huangbo, whose monk Yinyuan founded the Ōbaku school of Zen in Japan in the seventeenth century.
A Fuqing map poster brings together dense modern blocks, the thread of the river, and a coastline full of fingers of land and water. Framed wider, the bays and islands dominate; framed tighter, the city centre and its broad new avenues take over.

Indented coastline
Bays, estuaries and reclaimed land create a complicated, fragmented shoreline east of the city, with islands scattered offshore.
New avenues
Wide, straight roads and large blocks mark the recent expansion of the city, contrasting with the tighter streets of the older centre.
