The map
Haridwar Map Poster & Print
Haridwar has one of the most distinctive shapes in northern India. The city stretches along the Ganges exactly where the river emerges from the Shivalik hills onto the plains. On a map it is a narrow, elongated settlement pressed between wooded ridges and a braided river. Parallel channels, islands and embankments run through its centre.
The river defines everything here. At Har Ki Pauri, the most famous ghat, pilgrims gather each evening for the Ganga aarti, and Haridwar is one of the four sites of the Kumbh Mela. The city is also the headworks of the Upper Ganges Canal, a nineteenth-century engineering project whose straight course is easy to pick out against the river's natural curves.
A Haridwar map poster draws out that contrast: the soft, splitting lines of the river and the hard line of the canal. The dense lanes of the old town cling to the bank, and hill temples sit on the ridges above. It is a map of a city built around water and pilgrimage, and it reads clearly even at small sizes.

Upper Ganges Canal
Leaving the river at Haridwar, the canal cuts a straight, engineered path southward, a strong geometric counterpoint to the natural watercourses beside it.
Shivalik ridges
Forested hills rise directly behind the town, with hilltop shrines above the river. On the map this shows as an abrupt edge where streets simply stop.
