Two centres
The older mining districts and the newer eastern town sit some distance apart, so the map reads as two clusters joined by broad roads across open farmland.

The map
Hebi Map Poster & Print
Hebi lies where the Taihang Mountains drop into the North China Plain, and its map shows two quite different settlements. To the west, the older districts follow the folds of the foothills and the coal seams that first made the city. To the east, a newer administrative centre spreads across flatter ground in a wide, orderly grid of long avenues and large blocks.
The Qi River, an old waterway mentioned in the Classic of Poetry, runs through the area and has been shaped into parks and embankments in the newer part of town. The name Hebi, often translated as crane wall, comes from a legend of cranes resting on nearby cliffs. Coal mining built the modern city, which is now working to broaden its economy.
A Hebi map poster captures that contrast in one frame: the irregular lanes hugging the hills in the west, the clean geometry of the new town in the east and the Qi winding between them. It is an unusual composition for a Chinese city. Instead of one dense centre, it sets old industry against planned growth.

Qi River corridor
The Qi River curves across the plain near the newer districts. Its landscaped banks form a long, calm line through otherwise regular city blocks.
Foothills to the west
Toward the Taihang range, the street pattern loosens and bends around slopes. This gives the western edge of the poster a more organic, hand-drawn feel.

Why Hebi
A map that means something
Many people leave Hebi for work or study elsewhere in China, and a map of home is a low-key way to keep it close. The two-part layout also makes a handsome graphic piece for anyone who simply likes the look of planned cities.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a street name or a year, and choose from five styles, from Classic black & white to Blueprint or the warm Sand. Printed posters on matte paper ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
